My Experience

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending one of the Dynamites Friday night festivities. On this particular night, they were having a dance. The dance was held at the Jim Ward Community Center where members of the dynamites packed into a large room and started dancing. It was a great thing to see. The commissioner told me how her husband was the DJ and her son was interacting with the members on the dance floor. It really did reinforce how Mrs. Sementilli spoke of how her family is involved in the program.
The program truly welcomes those of all ages. In a room of roughly 40 Dynamites, I witnessed individuals who were teenagers, grown adults, and even senior citizens. I even got the opportunity to converse with a couple Dynamites. They were really great people. Even though there disability was easily detectable, it didn’t matter. Those I spoke with were kind, helpful, and most of all, just a joy to be around. My only regret was not being able to stay as long as I had hoped.
For the time I did spend around them, I did formulate a conclusion of my own. These kids, these teens, these seniors, they all showed one thing, joy. All of them were carefree. They laughed, they smiled, and they danced. Whether they were aware of there disability or not, it didn’t stop them from having a good time.
